Bonding over a mutual love of food and cooking, Carleen and Michael King got their start by taking on small catering gigs for family and friends. That venture turned into Carmi, a combination of the first syllables of each of their names, which soon gained a staunchly loyal following, with people coming from all over the state for a bite of their family recipes.

Ms. Terina Hicks is a Pittsburgh-based baker specializing in the nostalgic confections of her youth. She made her first cobbler at the age of 14, inspired by her mom's iconic holiday peach cobbler. It wasn't until a fortuitous and short-lived stint in the smoothie business that Ms. Hicks realized that cobblers were her calling. And CobblerWorld was born. To think Pittsburg has smoothies to thank for this local treasure.

Owner Joseph Altenor was inspired to open his cause-driven cafe after seeing the devastation the 2010 earthquake wrought in his home country of Haiti. Haitian Sensation isn't filled with just the flavors of Haiti, but also with its art, spirit, and culture as well. For the past decade, Altenor has donated the majority of his earnings to various community-wellness projects across Haiti, contributing to accessible drinking water projects, school building initiatives, and economic development/recovery efforts for people all over the country.
