Company Contributions
The H. J. Heinz Company is a non-partisan organization. The Company does not support individual candidates for public office.
Through senior management and the Company’s Department of Corporate and Government Affairs, Heinz seeks to shape public policy issues that affect the Company’s businesses around the world in order to ensure that the interests of our employees, customers, consumers and shareholders are fairly represented at all levels of government. Any Company funds used for such purposes must comply with applicable laws and such spending must be approved by the Chief Executive Officer and the Vice President of Corporate and Government Affairs, who report such activity to the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee of the Board of Directors on an annual basis. The Company’s policy on political contributions limits such political contributions to an aggregate amount of $200,000 per year.
Heinz also belongs to industry organizations and trade associations, and employs communications companies with the purpose of educating elected officials and government policy makers regarding issues of interest to the Company and our industry, and advocating for policy positions that Heinz believes are in the best interest of the Company and its shareholders. In 2008, the Company paid dues of $50,000 or more to each of the Grocery Manufacturers Association and the National Association of Manufacturers, and approximately $48,000 of the Company’s combined dues to both organizations was allocated to expenditures or contributions that, if made directly by the corporation, would not be deductible under 162(e)(1)(B) of the Internal Revenue Code.
