Heinz Continues As Leader of The Pack
Packaging Education Forum (PEF), an arm of the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI), has named H.J. Heinz Company its Packaging Leader of the Year 2000-2001.
Heinz was honored at the PEF's annual Leadership Awards banquet and ceremonies. The PEF recognized Heinz for its many customer-responsive packaging innovations and for the ingenuity and hard work of the Heinz research and development professionals responsible for bringing these ideas to market.
Among the innovations acknowledged were the first multi-layer plastic bottle for ketchup; stand-up pouches for pet treats; stand-up, resealable bags for Ore-Ida frozen french fries; StarKist Tuna in a Pouch; EZ Squirt kids condiments; and "trap-cap" lids on ketchup bottles.
"Heinz's many packaging advances over the years make it clear
that successive generations of Heinz leadership DO adhere to the ideal of continuous revolution and renewal,'' said Ben Miyares, president of the Packaging Education Forum.
Formed in 1957, the PEF is an independent, not-for-profit business membership organization that provides financial assistance to packaging education programs, curricula and students at 13 colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada. The PEF has presented the Packaging Leader award each year since 1970. |
