Healthy Partnerships
In addition to making nutritious foods, Heinz participates in a range of programs to help people live healthier lives, such as funding obesity research, educating consumers about nutrition and exercise choices and creating programs in the workplace to promote employee health.
Globally, Heinz has a number of institutes that work to advance the knowledge and practice of nutrition. Heinz underwrites all costs for these institutes, which collaborate with food and nutrition scientists, public health agencies and other professional bodies in a number of countries to evaluate scientific data and share nutrition information with the public.
Heinz is also driving new research on the health benefits of tomatoes. Studies have shown that consuming tomato products may reduce the risk of certain cancers and that processed tomato consumption may be associated with significantly lower C-reactive protein, a risk marker for cardiovascular disease. To build on this research and reap the greatest health benefits from tomato products, Heinz has funded research on the effects of lycopene, a powerful antioxidant in tomatoes, and its relation to conditions like heart disease and prostate cancer.
In the U.S., we partner with the United States Department of Agriculture to educate consumers about the department’s healthy food pyramid. We are a sponsor of America on the Move in Pittsburgh, part of a national non-profit organization that empowers people to take control of their health. Heinz also supports We Can!, a program created by the National Institutes of Health that focuses on helping children achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
MyPyramid Partnership
Heinz is proud to partner with the United States Department of Agriculture’s MyPyramid: Corporate Challenge to promote consumer health and wellness. Our partnership with the USDA supplements the many health and wellness initiatives underway at Heinz and promotes the MyPyramid consumer resources that help consumers make smart decisions about eating healthy and being more physically active.
America on the Move in Pittsburgh
Heinz is a major supporter of America on the Move in our hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The group is a regional arm of a national organization that aims to improve health and quality of life by helping people make small, simple changes to their daily eating and activity choices. Through a variety of personalized online tools and community support, participants start building proven habits that will positively affect their weight and health.
We Can!
Heinz is an active supporter of We Can! (“Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity and Nutrition”), a program created by the National Institutes of Health that focuses on helping children achieve and maintain a healthy weight. The program provides children and their parents with important tips and resources while focusing on three important behaviors: improved food choices, increased physical activity and reduced time in front of computer and television screens.
