Agriculture Training Program

One of the hallmarks of our sustainable agriculture program is our training program. The program was launched to equip growers with modern farming technologies and knowledge of good agricultural practices.

Our education efforts include personal visits to growers’ fields where we review techniques, assess constraints and determine what they are doing that works well and where improvements can be made. We provide seminars, growing manuals and field training to educate farmers about practices such as:

  • Water conservation and management
  • Soil analysis and restoration
  • Chemical application
  • Pest management
  • Crop rotations
  • Food and worker safety
  • Crop traceability
  • Composting
  • Biodiversity

When most consumers consider the crops grown for Heinz, they naturally think about tomatoes.  After all, Heinz is one of the largest users of processed tomatoes in the world – 2.5 million tons each year.  We also work with farmers around the globe to supply us with peas, beans, potatoes and other crops. Heinz expects farmers to follow our principles against hiring anyone under the age of 16 or using forced labor or involuntary prison labor. Learn more about the programs that we've implemented for tomatoestomatoes and peaspeas and read about our other sustainable agriculture projectssustainable agriculture projects.
